Why I think teaching is the most rewarding profession.

Hey, remember how last semester I said I was going to blog more often? Ha. Well, I guess I'm a little late getting started on that, but I finally have things to blog about! We had parent teacher conferences last night, and I had a parent come in and tell me that her daughter, who had never liked history before this semester, all of a sudden was really interested in it. She told me that "I must be doing something right," because she usually found history really boring, and that was not the case this semester. I mean, WOW. Isn't this what every teacher wants to hear? ...especially every student teacher? I mean, have I really impacted this girl's view of the subject of history? Not to say that I am a life changer, but this is why I think teaching is such a rewarding profession - it gives us the option to change attitudes and opinions, and to an extent, really impact these students' lives. This mother's comment really came at a perfect time, because I have been doubting myself lately, questioning whether or not I'm actually going to be good at this whole teaching thing. This whole job search thing is really discouraging, and for some reason, it is making me doubt myself. And I know I shouldn't, because I feel like I have come a longg way since the beginning of the year, and my mentor teacher told me that too. She said that I have really started to "own" my space at the front of the room and I am much more confident in my instruction. I mean, these are good things to hear! But for some reason, I am still stuck in a funk and I can't get out of it.
